4/12/2023 0 Comments Total war three kingdoms gameplay![]() ![]() This fact is further highlighted when you consider the limited number of possible new features could be added in "3K II". So, what I am really trying to say is, yes, 3K would have needed more work to perfect it, but there is a (IMO) fairly obvious plan of how to proceed with the "light at the end of the tunnel" so to speak already visible. As a modder, I know how difficult it can be to plan, execute, and balance modifications of existing content - I can't even imagine what it would take to design and create a brand-new feature! ![]() When I say this, I am absolutely NOT diminishing the time, money, and effort it takes to develop new game content, nor am I the type of person to rail against CA for not pumping out the exact content I want at the pace I want. ![]() Locking new factions with interesting mechanics behind DLC like Zhang Lu and Gongsun Du would be another incentive to encourage DLC sales.Īs listed, I think 3K had a pretty straightforward trajectory of development that would have neatly wrapped up the development cycle with minimal expenditure and pleasing most fans. Additionally, I think new campaigns like Warring States period and Chu-Han contention would have worked really well as a FOTS style expansion, or as a TW Saga. I think character art could be monetized in “character packs.” People would definitely buy that, though they may complain a bit ). Monetization is a big issue of course, as that is probably why development was stopped in the first place. This is an example of a new mechanic included in a update. New mechanic and units for Liu Bei’s unity to make him on par with the other major players. This would have been the optimal time for history and gameplay fans alike if done well. At the same time, the map is still populated with interesting factions like Liu Zhang (facing Liu Bei), Shi Xie (rivalry with Sun Quan in the south), and Zhang Lu (religious theocracy court and mechanic definitely one of the biggest missed opportunities). A couple of choice scripted events could help push toward the historical Three Kingdoms while preserving sandbox feel. Liu Bei is entering Shu, Ma Chao battles Cao Cao, Sun Quan expands in the south and will attack Hefei. My pick would be 211 AD - this is an important time that all but forms the Three Kingdoms as we know it. Some people will say Chibi, some people would say 3K proper. One Chapter Pack to bridge the gap between 200 AD and the Three Kingdoms period. Xiongnu (fill in Western north), Wuhuan (threat in the Eastern north) and Kingdom of Fuli with Gongsun Du would have been all that was needed. More cultures is nice, I really liked the Nanman expansion. I would have really preferred they continued development of new content to really make 3K the ultimate Three Kingdoms experience. ![]() I’m really am not sure what more could be added in a new title that justifies dropping 3K. But after continuing to play (and love) 3K over the last two years, as well as doing extensive modding of startpos, CEO, and scripting, I realize how fleshed out the game already is with the existing features. I was OK with the decision to stop content development in the condition that the next title would bring lots of new content and improvements. I thought I would copy my writing over here on the Steam forum just to share it, feel free to comment your thoughts too. I've changed my mind a lot on the subject, but feel that I have my thoughts mostly fleshed out now, and I have to say.I've become more disappointed with the end of development over time. Recently someone created a speculation thread for 3K II and the effect of the original 3K on the TW Forum. ![]()
